Description
The Southampton Golf Club is tucked neatly between two other popular golf courses at Shinnecock Hills and National Golf Links of America, which ensures its privacy – just the way the club members prefer it. Seth Raynor designed the 18-hole course stretching on 6407 yards of land, with a course rating of 71.8 and a slope rating of 130. The most recent additions were made by Brian Silva, who introduced a substantial tree clearing to the course’s layout, which improved its playability and maintenance. Practice facilities include pitching/chipping area and putting green, and you can request instruction from teaching professional.
The golfing season at the club starts at the beginning of April and ends in December, so players can enjoy their game almost year-round.
One of the drawbacks is the fact that the club is often overlooked by players because of its proximity to famous establishments. Even the official webpage reflects this: somehow it is designed more like a Pro Shop catalogue of golf equipment, rather than an introductory brochure into the course’s best features. Still, you might enjoy choosing goods here, and the shop even offers Beginner Gold Sets including the essentials – something that amateurs may appreciate.
Members and their guests only can visit the club, so preliminary inquiries are recommended.
