A country club with a name referencing the classic tale by Washington Irving, Sleepy Hollow features the course which is known as “legendary” among professional players. Originally established on more than 300 acres of land purchased by William Rockefeller, the layout was designed (and then redesigned) by several famous architects – C. B. Macdonald, Seth Raynor, A. W. Tillinghast and Gil Hanse are featured in the list.
While the club features several courses, the championship Upper course is the most distinctive one, serving as the main attraction for guests and members. It is an 18-hole classical layout with a slope of 135 and a rating of 73.8; the total length currently equals 6880 yards. Golfing on this perfectly maintained course can be enjoyed from the beginning of April until the first day of December, leaving the members with ample time to challenge their skills on the elevation changes and bunker complexes.
Members can benefit from various activities available at the club: these are racquet sports, stables and riding (something that is rarely featured in other clubs) and a swimming pool.
There is not a lot of information about membership categories, though, but you certainly need one to visit this private club. Contacting the management team using the contact information on the official website is highly recommended.
