If you are tired of country clubs with a too wide range of activities for the whole family (or if you are not into socializing that much), then you should take a closer look at Sands Point – a golf-only club for experienced players and their guests. Originally it started as a poorly-maintained 9-hole course, but later it was bought with a reconstructing plan in mind by the new owners. So the club’s history dates back to 1928 when the 18-hole 6800 yards (par 72) golf course redesigned by A.W. Tillinghast finally became available to the public. Elevated greens, fairway bunkers, subtle breaks, tight landing areas – if you are looking for a challenge, then Sands Pont is good at delivering one.
As for the practice facilities for skill improvement, these include a driving range, a pitching/chipping area and putting greens. Club’s head instructor is Robert Gick – a PGA and instructor with big experience.
Players should note that this club is not available all year round: the golfing season opens on April 15th and ends on October 15th. And since the club is private, make sure to inquire about the membership first; moreover, guests have to follow the dress code and strict technology guidelines banning the use of cellphones on the club’s territory.
