Description

Rockaway Hunting Club claims to be the oldest club in the US, but an important note must be made here. It didn’t originally start as a golf club – rather it was a club for horsemen. Currently, the golf course is one of the most famous features of the club and its main attractions, since the polo fields have been completely removed.

The golf course layout measures close to 6500 yards and features 18 holes in traditional Scottish links design. In the long list of famous architects, who participated in the enlargement and renovation processes of the course over the years, are Tom Bendelow, Devereux Emmet, A. W. Tillinghast, Perry Maxwell, Stephen Kay and Gil Hanse.

Aside from golf, members can enjoy various racquet sports on the finest 18 grass tennis courts, 7 Har-Tru tennis courts, 2 platform tennis courts, 3 singles squash courts and 1 doubles squash court.

Being a member of the club opens vast opportunities to socialize at private outings and events, or you can organize your celebration – Rockaway can accommodate up to 120 people.

Overall, the club maintains a very classy, high-society atmosphere, which casual players may find a little bit uncomfortable, but if you are looking for an elite establishment to test your skills in golf and racquet sports followed by a distinctive social event later – Rockaway might be just a right place for you.
