Description
A membership-based private country club with a long history, Powelton is considered to be one of the oldest courses in the USA. Members are offered an opportunity to play on a perfectly maintained 18-hole route designed by Devereaux Emmet, which takes 6,193 yards of open space, featuring greens, scenic views and landscape challenges to test even the most experienced players. The most recent renovations were introduced by the golf course architect Tripp Davis: bunkers were restored, and additional ladies and junior tees were also added, with different expansions of the fairway.
The club is very open about its membership policy and the prices, which are posted on the official website and begin at $4,500. Membership applications can be submitted on the website as well.
As expected from a private club, Powelton expects its guests to maintain the atmosphere: proper attire is required upon a visit, and there are strict rules about the use of cellphones use as well. Golfing is never approached casually here, as well as other activities offered by the club: members can engage not only in golf but also in tennis and pool.
One of the negative features is that the maximum court time is limited – to 2 hours for doubles and 1.5 hours for singles. While it may not be an issue for veteran players, beginners might feel intimidated by the perspective.
