Description

It may sound controversial, but Montauk Downs was a spot of attraction for golfers long before it became an official golf course in 1968. Players from all over the surroundings would come here, developing something akin to the traditional golf course in 1927 – that was until Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his son, Rees, redesigned the present layout.

In 1980 the Montauk Downs was purchased by State Parks. Currently, the golf course features soft spikes along with beautiful scenery, while ever-changing winds in the area can alter the flow of the game at any time. Reviewer note that the course is well-maintained and greens are immaculate, but the layout may not be suitable for beginners because of the hills and abundant wind.

The golf course is public, meaning that no membership is required, but it is necessary to book a tee time in advance. While this can be done online on the official website, please note that currently only credit or debit cards are accepted for payment of golf fees. Prices are not listed, but the previous visitors noted that the fee is “relatively inexpensive”.

Aside from the main golf course, facilities such as a pro shop, driving range and dining services are available for the visitors. Additionally, you can play tennis or swim in the pool.
