The Inwood Country Club has a surprisingly romantic backstory: it was originally designed in 1901 as a gift from a tobacco merchant to his fiancée. Since then the small 9-hole course has been expanded to a “family oasis”, situated just 20 miles away from Manhattan on the scenic South Shore of Long Island.

Currently, Inwood Country Club is a membership-owned establishment, which features a classic 18-hole course redesigned by one of the famous golf course architects Tom Doak. His layout repeatedly received praise and accolades from professionals: New York Times ranked it as one of the “15 Best of The Best” golf courses on Long Island.

Taking a total of 6639 yards, par 71, this course is challenging, which is acknowledged by high-skilled players and beginners alike. Most notably this course hosted several prestigious PGA championships, which proves its difficulty: currently tournaments are held for men and women.

Beginners may also benefit from the training program offered by the club, but the trick is that it is seemingly offered only for women (a 5-week intensive training program available in May) and children (via Junior Golf Program, the program starts on the Fathers’ Day). As for the men, the website doesn’t state any specific information on that, so it is better to inquire in advance.
