Description
The layout of the Crag Burn Golf Club has been designed by Robert Trent Jones: the architect was commissioned to turn the 190 acres of polo fields around the summer estate into a golf course – something that he has managed to do with expertise and style. The 18-hole course, par 72, was opened for play in 1972 and is frequently featured in the prestigious ratings as one of the top golf courses in the state of New York by Golf Digest.
Currently, the course stretches on 7150 yards of land, with a course rating of 75.2 and a slope rating of 137. The style is mixed, combining the parkland golf-style for the first nine holes and then transitioning into the traditional links course for the last nine. The layout presents a healthy number of bunkers and ponds to test the players’ skills and to challenge the accessibility of greens to some extent. In addition to the main course, the club offers a 12-acre practice facility for its members, including a pitching/chipping area and putting green, as well as assistance from the teaching professionals.
The membership at the Crag Burn is not only private but also by invitation only: you must be acquainted with someone who has good standing at the club to initiate the membership procedures. But if you want to schedule a guest visit to the club or learn more about the benefits, the contact form is featured on the official webpage.
